Handwriting: Common Words — Answers
Part A — Trace and write
Trace each grey word, then write it twice on your own. Keep your letters the same size.
Part B — Trace and write
Tall letters (h, k, l, t) reach the top line. Letters with tails (y, g) hang below.
Part C — Write on your own
Now write without tracing. Remember capital letters, finger spaces and full stops.
Answer: Child writes their own first name, e.g. Noah. Look for a capital first letter and even letter sizes.
Answer: They said we can come. (Check: capital T, finger spaces between words, full stop at the end.)
Answer: Any complete sentence using 'like', e.g. I like my little dog. Look for a capital letter, spaces and a full stop.
Marking tips
- Give credit for correct method even when the final answer slips — the working shows where the thinking went right.
- For open-ended tasks, use the success criteria as a checklist rather than looking for one "right" answer.
- Celebrate what went well first, then pick one thing to work on next.
