The Cubby in the Rain — Reading Comprehension — Answers
The Cubby in the Rain
Read the story carefully.
Ava and her brother Sam wanted to build a cubby house in the backyard. They found an old sheet, some rope and four long sticks. Dad helped them tie the rope between the gum tree and the fence.
Just as they hung the sheet over the rope, big grey clouds rolled across the sky. Drip. Drop. Then the rain came pouring down.
'Quick! Inside the cubby!' shouted Sam.
They crawled under the sheet and sat on the grass. Rain drummed on the roof of the cubby, but inside it was dry. Ava giggled. Sam made shadow puppets with the torch.
After a while the rain stopped. The sun came out and the yard smelt fresh and clean. Ava poked her head out.
'Look!' she said. A rainbow stretched over the roof of their house.
'The best cubby ever,' said Sam, and Ava agreed.
