Year 2 Number Lines Worksheet — Level 2 — Practice Set 3 — Answers

First find how much each space is worth: (end − start) ÷ number of spaces.

1.A number line goes from 3,000 to 5,500 and is split into 10 equal spaces. The arrow is 1 space along from 3,000. What number does the arrow point to?

Answer: 3,250

  1. Each space is (5,500 − 3,000) ÷ 10 = 250
  2. 3,000 + 1 × 250 = 3,250
2.A number line goes from 4,000 to 6,500 and is split into 10 equal spaces. The arrow is 5 spaces along from 4,000. What number does the arrow point to?

Answer: 5,250

  1. Each space is (6,500 − 4,000) ÷ 10 = 250
  2. 4,000 + 5 × 250 = 5,250
3.What number is halfway between 380 and 700?

Answer: 540

  1. 700 − 380 = 320; half of that is 160
  2. 380 + 160 = 540
4.A number line goes from 0 to 400 and is split into 4 equal spaces. The arrow is 2 spaces along from 0. What number does the arrow point to?

Answer: 200

  1. Each space is (400 − 0) ÷ 4 = 100
  2. 0 + 2 × 100 = 200
5.A number line goes from 800 to 900 and is split into 4 equal spaces. The arrow is 2 spaces along from 800. What number does the arrow point to?

Answer: 850

  1. Each space is (900 − 800) ÷ 4 = 25
  2. 800 + 2 × 25 = 850
6.What number is halfway between 160 and 740?

Answer: 450

  1. 740 − 160 = 580; half of that is 290
  2. 160 + 290 = 450
7.A number line goes from 800 to 925 and is split into 5 equal spaces. The arrow is 1 space along from 800. What number does the arrow point to?

Answer: 825

  1. Each space is (925 − 800) ÷ 5 = 25
  2. 800 + 1 × 25 = 825
8.A number line goes from 100 to 1,100 and is split into 10 equal spaces. The arrow is 8 spaces along from 100. What number does the arrow point to?

Answer: 900

  1. Each space is (1,100 − 100) ÷ 10 = 100
  2. 100 + 8 × 100 = 900
9.What number is halfway between 100 and 660?

Answer: 380

  1. 660 − 100 = 560; half of that is 280
  2. 100 + 280 = 380
10.A number line goes from 400 to 500 and is split into 5 equal spaces. The arrow is 2 spaces along from 400. What number does the arrow point to?

Answer: 440

  1. Each space is (500 − 400) ÷ 5 = 20
  2. 400 + 2 × 20 = 440

Marking tips

  • Give credit for correct method even when the final answer slips — the working shows where the thinking went right.
  • For open-ended tasks, use the success criteria as a checklist rather than looking for one "right" answer.
  • Celebrate what went well first, then pick one thing to work on next.
