Part A — Adjective or adverb?
An adjective describes a noun (a *gentle* wave). An adverb describes a verb and often ends in -ly (rolled *gently*). Circle the word class of the bold word.

Turn each adjective into an adverb by adding -ly. Watch the spelling!

Change the y to i, then add -ly.

Drop the e, then add -ly.

Part C — Find them all
Circle the adjectives and underline the adverb in each sentence. Then list them on the line.

Part D — Your turn
Model answer: The nervous runners waited quietly at the start line. A loud whistle blew suddenly. The fastest girl sprinted confidently to the finish.
Success criteria:
- Three complete sentences
- At least one adjective in each sentence, circled
- At least one adverb in each sentence, underlined
- Capital letters and full stops
Marking tips
- Give credit for correct method even when the final answer slips — the working shows where the thinking went right.
- For open-ended tasks, use the success criteria as a checklist rather than looking for one "right" answer.
