Year 5 Number Lines Worksheet — Level 2 — Answers
First find how much each space is worth: (end − start) ÷ number of spaces.
1.A number line goes from 500 to 900 and is split into 4 equal spaces. The arrow is 2 spaces along from 500. What number does the arrow point to?
Answer: 700
- Each space is (900 − 500) ÷ 4 = 100
- 500 + 2 × 100 = 700
2.A number line goes from 800 to 925 and is split into 5 equal spaces. The arrow is 2 spaces along from 800. What number does the arrow point to?
Answer: 850
- Each space is (925 − 800) ÷ 5 = 25
- 800 + 2 × 25 = 850
3.What number is halfway between 220 and 360?
Answer: 290
- 360 − 220 = 140; half of that is 70
- 220 + 70 = 290
4.A number line goes from 0 to 100 and is split into 4 equal spaces. The arrow is 3 spaces along from 0. What number does the arrow point to?
Answer: 75
- Each space is (100 − 0) ÷ 4 = 25
- 0 + 3 × 25 = 75
5.A number line goes from 900 to 1,100 and is split into 4 equal spaces. The arrow is 2 spaces along from 900. What number does the arrow point to?
Answer: 1,000
- Each space is (1,100 − 900) ÷ 4 = 50
- 900 + 2 × 50 = 1,000
6.What number is halfway between 220 and 380?
Answer: 300
- 380 − 220 = 160; half of that is 80
- 220 + 80 = 300
7.A number line goes from 400 to 800 and is split into 4 equal spaces. The arrow is 1 space along from 400. What number does the arrow point to?
Answer: 500
- Each space is (800 − 400) ÷ 4 = 100
- 400 + 1 × 100 = 500
8.A number line goes from 8,000 to 10,500 and is split into 10 equal spaces. The arrow is 5 spaces along from 8,000. What number does the arrow point to?
Answer: 9,250
- Each space is (10,500 − 8,000) ÷ 10 = 250
- 8,000 + 5 × 250 = 9,250
9.What number is halfway between 280 and 420?
Answer: 350
- 420 − 280 = 140; half of that is 70
- 280 + 70 = 350
10.A number line goes from 600 to 800 and is split into 10 equal spaces. The arrow is 1 space along from 600. What number does the arrow point to?
Answer: 620
- Each space is (800 − 600) ÷ 10 = 20
- 600 + 1 × 20 = 620
Marking tips
- Give credit for correct method even when the final answer slips — the working shows where the thinking went right.
- For open-ended tasks, use the success criteria as a checklist rather than looking for one "right" answer.
- Celebrate what went well first, then pick one thing to work on next.
