Year 6 Number Lines Worksheet — Level 2 — Answers
First find how much each space is worth: (end − start) ÷ number of spaces.
1.A number line goes from 0 to 400 and is split into 4 equal spaces. The arrow is 2 spaces along from 0. What number does the arrow point to?
Answer: 200
- Each space is (400 − 0) ÷ 4 = 100
- 0 + 2 × 100 = 200
2.A number line goes from 200 to 280 and is split into 4 equal spaces. The arrow is 3 spaces along from 200. What number does the arrow point to?
Answer: 260
- Each space is (280 − 200) ÷ 4 = 20
- 200 + 3 × 20 = 260
3.What number is halfway between 400 and 500?
Answer: 450
- 500 − 400 = 100; half of that is 50
- 400 + 50 = 450
4.A number line goes from 800 to 1,050 and is split into 10 equal spaces. The arrow is 4 spaces along from 800. What number does the arrow point to?
Answer: 900
- Each space is (1,050 − 800) ÷ 10 = 25
- 800 + 4 × 25 = 900
5.A number line goes from 100 to 200 and is split into 4 equal spaces. The arrow is 3 spaces along from 100. What number does the arrow point to?
Answer: 175
- Each space is (200 − 100) ÷ 4 = 25
- 100 + 3 × 25 = 175
6.What number is halfway between 280 and 320?
Answer: 300
- 320 − 280 = 40; half of that is 20
- 280 + 20 = 300
7.A number line goes from 300 to 400 and is split into 5 equal spaces. The arrow is 4 spaces along from 300. What number does the arrow point to?
Answer: 380
- Each space is (400 − 300) ÷ 5 = 20
- 300 + 4 × 20 = 380
8.A number line goes from 100 to 600 and is split into 5 equal spaces. The arrow is 2 spaces along from 100. What number does the arrow point to?
Answer: 300
- Each space is (600 − 100) ÷ 5 = 100
- 100 + 2 × 100 = 300
9.What number is halfway between 120 and 200?
Answer: 160
- 200 − 120 = 80; half of that is 40
- 120 + 40 = 160
10.A number line goes from 800 to 1,000 and is split into 10 equal spaces. The arrow is 7 spaces along from 800. What number does the arrow point to?
Answer: 940
- Each space is (1,000 − 800) ÷ 10 = 20
- 800 + 7 × 20 = 940
Marking tips
- Give credit for correct method even when the final answer slips — the working shows where the thinking went right.
- For open-ended tasks, use the success criteria as a checklist rather than looking for one "right" answer.
- Celebrate what went well first, then pick one thing to work on next.
