1.A cylinder has a radius of 7 cm and a height of 6 cm. Find its volume, correct to 1 decimal place.
Answer: 923.6 cm3
- V = π × r2 × h = π × 72 × 6
- = π × 294
- ≈ 923.6 cm3
2.A rectangular prism has a volume of 324 cm3. Its base is 9 cm by 4 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 9 cm
- Base area = 9 × 4 = 36 cm2
- Height = 324 ÷ 36 = 9 cm
3.A rectangular prism has a volume of 200 cm3. Its base is 5 cm by 10 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 4 cm
- Base area = 5 × 10 = 50 cm2
- Height = 200 ÷ 50 = 4 cm
4.A cylinder has a radius of 4 cm and a height of 7 cm. Find its volume, correct to 1 decimal place.
Answer: 351.9 cm3
- V = π × r2 × h = π × 42 × 7
- = π × 112
- ≈ 351.9 cm3
5.A cylinder has a radius of 6 cm and a height of 10 cm. Find its volume, correct to 1 decimal place.
Answer: 1131.0 cm3
- V = π × r2 × h = π × 62 × 10
- = π × 360
- ≈ 1131.0 cm3
6.A rectangular prism has a volume of 45 cm3. Its base is 3 cm by 3 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 5 cm
- Base area = 3 × 3 = 9 cm2
- Height = 45 ÷ 9 = 5 cm
7.A rectangular prism has a volume of 140 cm3. Its base is 4 cm by 7 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 5 cm
- Base area = 4 × 7 = 28 cm2
- Height = 140 ÷ 28 = 5 cm
8.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 16 cm and height 2 cm. The prism is 12 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 192 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 16 × 2 = 16 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 16 × 12
- = 192 cm3
9.A rectangular prism has a volume of 120 cm3. Its base is 3 cm by 8 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 5 cm
- Base area = 3 × 8 = 24 cm2
- Height = 120 ÷ 24 = 5 cm
10.A rectangular prism has a volume of 70 cm3. Its base is 7 cm by 2 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 5 cm
- Base area = 7 × 2 = 14 cm2
- Height = 70 ÷ 14 = 5 cm
Marking tips
- Give credit for correct method even when the final answer slips — the working shows where the thinking went right.
- For open-ended tasks, use the success criteria as a checklist rather than looking for one "right" answer.
- Celebrate what went well first, then pick one thing to work on next.
