Year 7 Volume of Prisms and Cylinders Worksheet — Level 2 — Answers
Show your working. Volume is measured in cubic units (cm³).
1.A rectangular prism has a volume of 288 cm3. Its base is 12 cm by 4 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 6 cm
- Base area = 12 × 4 = 48 cm2
- Height = 288 ÷ 48 = 6 cm
2.A rectangular prism is 8 cm long, 3 cm wide and 4 cm high. Find its volume.
Answer: 96 cm3
- V = length × width × height = 8 × 3 × 4
- = 96 cm3
3.A rectangular prism has a volume of 486 cm3. Its base is 6 cm by 9 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 9 cm
- Base area = 6 × 9 = 54 cm2
- Height = 486 ÷ 54 = 9 cm
4.A rectangular prism is 11 cm long, 11 cm wide and 7 cm high. Find its volume.
Answer: 847 cm3
- V = length × width × height = 11 × 11 × 7
- = 847 cm3
5.A rectangular prism has a volume of 220 cm3. Its base is 11 cm by 5 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 4 cm
- Base area = 11 × 5 = 55 cm2
- Height = 220 ÷ 55 = 4 cm
6.A rectangular prism is 6 cm long, 5 cm wide and 9 cm high. Find its volume.
Answer: 270 cm3
- V = length × width × height = 6 × 5 × 9
- = 270 cm3
7.A rectangular prism has a volume of 36 cm3. Its base is 6 cm by 3 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 2 cm
- Base area = 6 × 3 = 18 cm2
- Height = 36 ÷ 18 = 2 cm
8.A rectangular prism is 5 cm long, 6 cm wide and 7 cm high. Find its volume.
Answer: 210 cm3
- V = length × width × height = 5 × 6 × 7
- = 210 cm3
9.A rectangular prism is 7 cm long, 3 cm wide and 5 cm high. Find its volume.
Answer: 105 cm3
- V = length × width × height = 7 × 3 × 5
- = 105 cm3
10.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 20 cm and height 2 cm. The prism is 10 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 200 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 20 × 2 = 20 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 20 × 10
- = 200 cm3
Marking tips
- Give credit for correct method even when the final answer slips — the working shows where the thinking went right.
- For open-ended tasks, use the success criteria as a checklist rather than looking for one "right" answer.
- Celebrate what went well first, then pick one thing to work on next.
