Year 7 Volume of Prisms and Cylinders Worksheet — Level 2 — Practice Set 4 — Answers
Show your working. Volume is measured in cubic units (cm³).
1.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 10 cm and height 2 cm. The prism is 4 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 40 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 10 × 2 = 10 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 10 × 4
- = 40 cm3
2.A rectangular prism is 7 cm long, 5 cm wide and 10 cm high. Find its volume.
Answer: 350 cm3
- V = length × width × height = 7 × 5 × 10
- = 350 cm3
3.A rectangular prism has a volume of 240 cm3. Its base is 5 cm by 8 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 6 cm
- Base area = 5 × 8 = 40 cm2
- Height = 240 ÷ 40 = 6 cm
4.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 24 cm and height 6 cm. The prism is 13 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 936 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 24 × 6 = 72 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 72 × 13
- = 936 cm3
5.A rectangular prism has a volume of 504 cm3. Its base is 9 cm by 7 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 8 cm
- Base area = 9 × 7 = 63 cm2
- Height = 504 ÷ 63 = 8 cm
6.A rectangular prism has a volume of 128 cm3. Its base is 4 cm by 4 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 8 cm
- Base area = 4 × 4 = 16 cm2
- Height = 128 ÷ 16 = 8 cm
7.A rectangular prism is 10 cm long, 3 cm wide and 9 cm high. Find its volume.
Answer: 270 cm3
- V = length × width × height = 10 × 3 × 9
- = 270 cm3
8.A rectangular prism is 7 cm long, 5 cm wide and 5 cm high. Find its volume.
Answer: 175 cm3
- V = length × width × height = 7 × 5 × 5
- = 175 cm3
9.A rectangular prism has a volume of 45 cm3. Its base is 5 cm by 3 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 3 cm
- Base area = 5 × 3 = 15 cm2
- Height = 45 ÷ 15 = 3 cm
10.A rectangular prism is 15 cm long, 3 cm wide and 8 cm high. Find its volume.
Answer: 360 cm3
- V = length × width × height = 15 × 3 × 8
- = 360 cm3
Marking tips
- Give credit for correct method even when the final answer slips — the working shows where the thinking went right.
- For open-ended tasks, use the success criteria as a checklist rather than looking for one "right" answer.
- Celebrate what went well first, then pick one thing to work on next.
