1.A rectangular prism has a volume of 224 cm3. Its base is 8 cm by 7 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 4 cm
- Base area = 8 × 7 = 56 cm2
- Height = 224 ÷ 56 = 4 cm
2.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 22 cm and height 8 cm. The prism is 15 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 1,320 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 22 × 8 = 88 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 88 × 15
- = 1,320 cm3
3.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 4 cm and height 3 cm. The prism is 15 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 90 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 4 × 3 = 6 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 6 × 15
- = 90 cm3
4.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 10 cm and height 4 cm. The prism is 11 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 220 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 10 × 4 = 20 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 20 × 11
- = 220 cm3
5.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 6 cm and height 10 cm. The prism is 13 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 390 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 6 × 10 = 30 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 30 × 13
- = 390 cm3
6.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 18 cm and height 6 cm. The prism is 13 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 702 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 18 × 6 = 54 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 54 × 13
- = 702 cm3
7.A rectangular prism has a volume of 160 cm3. Its base is 8 cm by 10 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 2 cm
- Base area = 8 × 10 = 80 cm2
- Height = 160 ÷ 80 = 2 cm
8.A rectangular prism has a volume of 616 cm3. Its base is 11 cm by 7 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 8 cm
- Base area = 11 × 7 = 77 cm2
- Height = 616 ÷ 77 = 8 cm
9.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 18 cm and height 3 cm. The prism is 8 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 216 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 18 × 3 = 27 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 27 × 8
- = 216 cm3
10.A rectangular prism has a volume of 144 cm3. Its base is 12 cm by 3 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 4 cm
- Base area = 12 × 3 = 36 cm2
- Height = 144 ÷ 36 = 4 cm
Marking tips
- Give credit for correct method even when the final answer slips — the working shows where the thinking went right.
- For open-ended tasks, use the success criteria as a checklist rather than looking for one "right" answer.
- Celebrate what went well first, then pick one thing to work on next.
