1.A rectangular prism has a volume of 160 cm3. Its base is 4 cm by 8 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 5 cm
- Base area = 4 × 8 = 32 cm2
- Height = 160 ÷ 32 = 5 cm
2.A cylinder has a radius of 7 cm and a height of 16 cm. Find its volume, correct to 1 decimal place.
Answer: 2463.0 cm3
- V = π × r2 × h = π × 72 × 16
- = π × 784
- ≈ 2463.0 cm3
3.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 4 cm and height 7 cm. The prism is 14 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 196 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 4 × 7 = 14 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 14 × 14
- = 196 cm3
4.A rectangular prism has a volume of 12 cm3. Its base is 3 cm by 2 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 2 cm
- Base area = 3 × 2 = 6 cm2
- Height = 12 ÷ 6 = 2 cm
5.A rectangular prism has a volume of 54 cm3. Its base is 3 cm by 6 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 3 cm
- Base area = 3 × 6 = 18 cm2
- Height = 54 ÷ 18 = 3 cm
6.A rectangular prism has a volume of 240 cm3. Its base is 4 cm by 10 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 6 cm
- Base area = 4 × 10 = 40 cm2
- Height = 240 ÷ 40 = 6 cm
7.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 20 cm and height 3 cm. The prism is 11 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 330 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 20 × 3 = 30 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 30 × 11
- = 330 cm3
8.A cylinder has a radius of 4 cm and a height of 20 cm. Find its volume, correct to 1 decimal place.
Answer: 1005.3 cm3
- V = π × r2 × h = π × 42 × 20
- = π × 320
- ≈ 1005.3 cm3
9.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 18 cm and height 4 cm. The prism is 8 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 288 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 18 × 4 = 36 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 36 × 8
- = 288 cm3
10.A cylinder has a radius of 6 cm and a height of 10 cm. Find its volume, correct to 1 decimal place.
Answer: 1131.0 cm3
- V = π × r2 × h = π × 62 × 10
- = π × 360
- ≈ 1131.0 cm3
Marking tips
- Give credit for correct method even when the final answer slips — the working shows where the thinking went right.
- For open-ended tasks, use the success criteria as a checklist rather than looking for one "right" answer.
- Celebrate what went well first, then pick one thing to work on next.
