Free Year 10 Sentence Variety and Cohesion Worksheet

Students learn to control rhythm and flow at paragraph level: varying sentence length and type (simple, compound, complex), opening sentences in different ways, and using cohesive devices such as pronoun reference, connectives and repeated key words so that ideas link smoothly. They identify sentence types, combine choppy sentences, supply the right connectives and finally rewrite a monotonous paragraph. These are the editing skills that separate competent writing from fluent writing in Year 10 and exam-style tasks.
