1.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 22 cm and height 5 cm. The prism is 5 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 275 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 22 × 5 = 55 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 55 × 5
- = 275 cm3
2.A rectangular prism has a volume of 75 cm3. Its base is 5 cm by 5 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 3 cm
- Base area = 5 × 5 = 25 cm2
- Height = 75 ÷ 25 = 3 cm
3.A rectangular prism has a volume of 216 cm3. Its base is 3 cm by 9 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 8 cm
- Base area = 3 × 9 = 27 cm2
- Height = 216 ÷ 27 = 8 cm
4.A cylinder has a radius of 2 cm and a height of 6 cm. Find its volume, correct to 1 decimal place.
Answer: 75.4 cm3
- V = π × r2 × h = π × 22 × 6
- = π × 24
- ≈ 75.4 cm3
5.A rectangular prism has a volume of 315 cm3. Its base is 5 cm by 7 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 9 cm
- Base area = 5 × 7 = 35 cm2
- Height = 315 ÷ 35 = 9 cm
6.A cylinder has a radius of 9 cm and a height of 15 cm. Find its volume, correct to 1 decimal place.
Answer: 3817.0 cm3
- V = π × r2 × h = π × 92 × 15
- = π × 1215
- ≈ 3817.0 cm3
7.A cylinder has a radius of 4 cm and a height of 7 cm. Find its volume, correct to 1 decimal place.
Answer: 351.9 cm3
- V = π × r2 × h = π × 42 × 7
- = π × 112
- ≈ 351.9 cm3
8.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 16 cm and height 6 cm. The prism is 13 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 624 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 16 × 6 = 48 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 48 × 13
- = 624 cm3
9.A rectangular prism has a volume of 240 cm3. Its base is 8 cm by 5 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 6 cm
- Base area = 8 × 5 = 40 cm2
- Height = 240 ÷ 40 = 6 cm
10.A rectangular prism has a volume of 252 cm3. Its base is 6 cm by 6 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 7 cm
- Base area = 6 × 6 = 36 cm2
- Height = 252 ÷ 36 = 7 cm
Marking tips
- Give credit for correct method even when the final answer slips — the working shows where the thinking went right.
- For open-ended tasks, use the success criteria as a checklist rather than looking for one "right" answer.
- Celebrate what went well first, then pick one thing to work on next.
