1.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 18 cm and height 5 cm. The prism is 15 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 675 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 18 × 5 = 45 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 45 × 15
- = 675 cm3
2.A cylinder has a radius of 7 cm and a height of 5 cm. Find its volume, correct to 1 decimal place.
Answer: 769.7 cm3
- V = π × r2 × h = π × 72 × 5
- = π × 245
- ≈ 769.7 cm3
3.A cylinder has a radius of 6 cm and a height of 18 cm. Find its volume, correct to 1 decimal place.
Answer: 2035.8 cm3
- V = π × r2 × h = π × 62 × 18
- = π × 648
- ≈ 2035.8 cm3
4.A rectangular prism has a volume of 24 cm3. Its base is 3 cm by 2 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 4 cm
- Base area = 3 × 2 = 6 cm2
- Height = 24 ÷ 6 = 4 cm
5.A cylinder has a radius of 8 cm and a height of 13 cm. Find its volume, correct to 1 decimal place.
Answer: 2613.8 cm3
- V = π × r2 × h = π × 82 × 13
- = π × 832
- ≈ 2613.8 cm3
6.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 24 cm and height 7 cm. The prism is 5 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 420 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 24 × 7 = 84 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 84 × 5
- = 420 cm3
7.A rectangular prism has a volume of 144 cm3. Its base is 12 cm by 4 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 3 cm
- Base area = 12 × 4 = 48 cm2
- Height = 144 ÷ 48 = 3 cm
8.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 12 cm and height 8 cm. The prism is 11 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 528 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 12 × 8 = 48 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 48 × 11
- = 528 cm3
9.A rectangular prism has a volume of 98 cm3. Its base is 7 cm by 2 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 7 cm
- Base area = 7 × 2 = 14 cm2
- Height = 98 ÷ 14 = 7 cm
10.A cylinder has a radius of 6 cm and a height of 14 cm. Find its volume, correct to 1 decimal place.
Answer: 1583.4 cm3
- V = π × r2 × h = π × 62 × 14
- = π × 504
- ≈ 1583.4 cm3
Marking tips
- Give credit for correct method even when the final answer slips — the working shows where the thinking went right.
- For open-ended tasks, use the success criteria as a checklist rather than looking for one "right" answer.
- Celebrate what went well first, then pick one thing to work on next.
