Year 10 Volume of Prisms and Cylinders Worksheet — Level 2 — Answers
Show your working. Volume is measured in cubic units (cm³).
1.A rectangular prism has a volume of 210 cm3. Its base is 5 cm by 7 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 6 cm
- Base area = 5 × 7 = 35 cm2
- Height = 210 ÷ 35 = 6 cm
2.A rectangular prism is 4 cm long, 12 cm wide and 5 cm high. Find its volume.
Answer: 240 cm3
- V = length × width × height = 4 × 12 × 5
- = 240 cm3
3.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 16 cm and height 4 cm. The prism is 10 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 320 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 16 × 4 = 32 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 32 × 10
- = 320 cm3
4.A rectangular prism is 7 cm long, 4 cm wide and 7 cm high. Find its volume.
Answer: 196 cm3
- V = length × width × height = 7 × 4 × 7
- = 196 cm3
5.A rectangular prism has a volume of 264 cm3. Its base is 11 cm by 6 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 4 cm
- Base area = 11 × 6 = 66 cm2
- Height = 264 ÷ 66 = 4 cm
6.A rectangular prism has a volume of 108 cm3. Its base is 4 cm by 3 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 9 cm
- Base area = 4 × 3 = 12 cm2
- Height = 108 ÷ 12 = 9 cm
7.A rectangular prism has a volume of 480 cm3. Its base is 10 cm by 8 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 6 cm
- Base area = 10 × 8 = 80 cm2
- Height = 480 ÷ 80 = 6 cm
8.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 10 cm and height 6 cm. The prism is 15 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 450 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 10 × 6 = 30 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 30 × 15
- = 450 cm3
9.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 4 cm and height 4 cm. The prism is 13 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 104 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 4 × 4 = 8 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 8 × 13
- = 104 cm3
10.A rectangular prism has a volume of 504 cm3. Its base is 12 cm by 7 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 6 cm
- Base area = 12 × 7 = 84 cm2
- Height = 504 ÷ 84 = 6 cm
Marking tips
- Give credit for correct method even when the final answer slips — the working shows where the thinking went right.
- For open-ended tasks, use the success criteria as a checklist rather than looking for one "right" answer.
- Celebrate what went well first, then pick one thing to work on next.
Great work. Here's what to try next:
