Year 10 Volume of Prisms and Cylinders Worksheet — Level 2 — Practice Set 4 — Answers
Show your working. Volume is measured in cubic units (cm³).
1.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 18 cm and height 3 cm. The prism is 12 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 324 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 18 × 3 = 27 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 27 × 12
- = 324 cm3
2.A rectangular prism has a volume of 405 cm3. Its base is 5 cm by 9 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 9 cm
- Base area = 5 × 9 = 45 cm2
- Height = 405 ÷ 45 = 9 cm
3.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 20 cm and height 5 cm. The prism is 13 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 650 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 20 × 5 = 50 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 50 × 13
- = 650 cm3
4.A rectangular prism has a volume of 24 cm3. Its base is 6 cm by 2 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 2 cm
- Base area = 6 × 2 = 12 cm2
- Height = 24 ÷ 12 = 2 cm
5.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 12 cm and height 2 cm. The prism is 7 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 84 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 12 × 2 = 12 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 12 × 7
- = 84 cm3
6.A rectangular prism is 6 cm long, 12 cm wide and 6 cm high. Find its volume.
Answer: 432 cm3
- V = length × width × height = 6 × 12 × 6
- = 432 cm3
7.A rectangular prism is 4 cm long, 3 cm wide and 4 cm high. Find its volume.
Answer: 48 cm3
- V = length × width × height = 4 × 3 × 4
- = 48 cm3
8.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 4 cm and height 5 cm. The prism is 12 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 120 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 4 × 5 = 10 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 10 × 12
- = 120 cm3
9.A rectangular prism has a volume of 140 cm3. Its base is 7 cm by 5 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 4 cm
- Base area = 7 × 5 = 35 cm2
- Height = 140 ÷ 35 = 4 cm
10.A rectangular prism has a volume of 100 cm3. Its base is 10 cm by 2 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 5 cm
- Base area = 10 × 2 = 20 cm2
- Height = 100 ÷ 20 = 5 cm
Marking tips
- Give credit for correct method even when the final answer slips — the working shows where the thinking went right.
- For open-ended tasks, use the success criteria as a checklist rather than looking for one "right" answer.
- Celebrate what went well first, then pick one thing to work on next.
