Year 7 Volume of Prisms and Cylinders Worksheet — Level 2 — Answers

Show your working. Volume is measured in cubic units (cm³).

1.A rectangular prism has a volume of 630 cm3. Its base is 9 cm by 10 cm. Find its height.

Answer: 7 cm

  1. Base area = 9 × 10 = 90 cm2
  2. Height = 630 ÷ 90 = 7 cm
2.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 22 cm and height 7 cm. The prism is 14 cm long. Find its volume.

Answer: 1,078 cm3

  1. Area of the triangle = ½ × 22 × 7 = 77 cm2
  2. V = area of end × length = 77 × 14
  3. = 1,078 cm3
3.A rectangular prism has a volume of 264 cm3. Its base is 11 cm by 4 cm. Find its height.

Answer: 6 cm

  1. Base area = 11 × 4 = 44 cm2
  2. Height = 264 ÷ 44 = 6 cm
4.A rectangular prism has a volume of 462 cm3. Its base is 11 cm by 7 cm. Find its height.

Answer: 6 cm

  1. Base area = 11 × 7 = 77 cm2
  2. Height = 462 ÷ 77 = 6 cm
5.A rectangular prism has a volume of 144 cm3. Its base is 6 cm by 8 cm. Find its height.

Answer: 3 cm

  1. Base area = 6 × 8 = 48 cm2
  2. Height = 144 ÷ 48 = 3 cm
6.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 18 cm and height 7 cm. The prism is 13 cm long. Find its volume.

Answer: 819 cm3

  1. Area of the triangle = ½ × 18 × 7 = 63 cm2
  2. V = area of end × length = 63 × 13
  3. = 819 cm3
7.A rectangular prism is 4 cm long, 5 cm wide and 8 cm high. Find its volume.

Answer: 160 cm3

  1. V = length × width × height = 4 × 5 × 8
  2. = 160 cm3
8.A rectangular prism is 12 cm long, 10 cm wide and 2 cm high. Find its volume.

Answer: 240 cm3

  1. V = length × width × height = 12 × 10 × 2
  2. = 240 cm3
9.A rectangular prism is 14 cm long, 6 cm wide and 8 cm high. Find its volume.

Answer: 672 cm3

  1. V = length × width × height = 14 × 6 × 8
  2. = 672 cm3
10.A rectangular prism is 4 cm long, 9 cm wide and 4 cm high. Find its volume.

Answer: 144 cm3

  1. V = length × width × height = 4 × 9 × 4
  2. = 144 cm3

Marking tips

  • Give credit for correct method even when the final answer slips — the working shows where the thinking went right.
  • For open-ended tasks, use the success criteria as a checklist rather than looking for one "right" answer.
  • Celebrate what went well first, then pick one thing to work on next.
