1.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 24 cm and height 3 cm. The prism is 7 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 252 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 24 × 3 = 36 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 36 × 7
- = 252 cm3
2.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 12 cm and height 9 cm. The prism is 5 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 270 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 12 × 9 = 54 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 54 × 5
- = 270 cm3
3.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 4 cm and height 9 cm. The prism is 6 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 108 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 4 × 9 = 18 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 18 × 6
- = 108 cm3
4.A rectangular prism has a volume of 420 cm3. Its base is 12 cm by 5 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 7 cm
- Base area = 12 × 5 = 60 cm2
- Height = 420 ÷ 60 = 7 cm
5.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 12 cm and height 4 cm. The prism is 14 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 336 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 12 × 4 = 24 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 24 × 14
- = 336 cm3
6.A cylinder has a radius of 8 cm and a height of 8 cm. Find its volume, correct to 1 decimal place.
Answer: 1608.5 cm3
- V = π × r2 × h = π × 82 × 8
- = π × 512
- ≈ 1608.5 cm3
7.A rectangular prism has a volume of 36 cm3. Its base is 6 cm by 2 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 3 cm
- Base area = 6 × 2 = 12 cm2
- Height = 36 ÷ 12 = 3 cm
8.A rectangular prism has a volume of 60 cm3. Its base is 4 cm by 5 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 3 cm
- Base area = 4 × 5 = 20 cm2
- Height = 60 ÷ 20 = 3 cm
9.A rectangular prism has a volume of 140 cm3. Its base is 4 cm by 7 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 5 cm
- Base area = 4 × 7 = 28 cm2
- Height = 140 ÷ 28 = 5 cm
10.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 20 cm and height 3 cm. The prism is 15 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 450 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 20 × 3 = 30 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 30 × 15
- = 450 cm3
Marking tips
- Give credit for correct method even when the final answer slips — the working shows where the thinking went right.
- For open-ended tasks, use the success criteria as a checklist rather than looking for one "right" answer.
- Celebrate what went well first, then pick one thing to work on next.
