1.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 16 cm and height 3 cm. The prism is 13 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 312 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 16 × 3 = 24 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 24 × 13
- = 312 cm3
2.A rectangular prism has a volume of 147 cm3. Its base is 7 cm by 7 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 3 cm
- Base area = 7 × 7 = 49 cm2
- Height = 147 ÷ 49 = 3 cm
3.A rectangular prism has a volume of 180 cm3. Its base is 9 cm by 10 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 2 cm
- Base area = 9 × 10 = 90 cm2
- Height = 180 ÷ 90 = 2 cm
4.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 22 cm and height 5 cm. The prism is 5 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 275 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 22 × 5 = 55 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 55 × 5
- = 275 cm3
5.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 12 cm and height 2 cm. The prism is 10 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 120 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 12 × 2 = 12 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 12 × 10
- = 120 cm3
6.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 22 cm and height 3 cm. The prism is 11 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 363 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 22 × 3 = 33 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 33 × 11
- = 363 cm3
7.A cylinder has a radius of 3 cm and a height of 9 cm. Find its volume, correct to 1 decimal place.
Answer: 254.5 cm3
- V = π × r2 × h = π × 32 × 9
- = π × 81
- ≈ 254.5 cm3
8.A cylinder has a radius of 10 cm and a height of 11 cm. Find its volume, correct to 1 decimal place.
Answer: 3455.8 cm3
- V = π × r2 × h = π × 102 × 11
- = π × 1100
- ≈ 3455.8 cm3
9.A cylinder has a radius of 5 cm and a height of 10 cm. Find its volume, correct to 1 decimal place.
Answer: 785.4 cm3
- V = π × r2 × h = π × 52 × 10
- = π × 250
- ≈ 785.4 cm3
10.A cylinder has a radius of 4 cm and a height of 9 cm. Find its volume, correct to 1 decimal place.
Answer: 452.4 cm3
- V = π × r2 × h = π × 42 × 9
- = π × 144
- ≈ 452.4 cm3
Marking tips
- Give credit for correct method even when the final answer slips — the working shows where the thinking went right.
- For open-ended tasks, use the success criteria as a checklist rather than looking for one "right" answer.
- Celebrate what went well first, then pick one thing to work on next.
