1.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 14 cm and height 5 cm. The prism is 8 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 280 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 14 × 5 = 35 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 35 × 8
- = 280 cm3
2.A rectangular prism has a volume of 160 cm3. Its base is 8 cm by 10 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 2 cm
- Base area = 8 × 10 = 80 cm2
- Height = 160 ÷ 80 = 2 cm
3.A rectangular prism has a volume of 24 cm3. Its base is 4 cm by 3 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 2 cm
- Base area = 4 × 3 = 12 cm2
- Height = 24 ÷ 12 = 2 cm
4.A rectangular prism has a volume of 180 cm3. Its base is 5 cm by 9 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 4 cm
- Base area = 5 × 9 = 45 cm2
- Height = 180 ÷ 45 = 4 cm
5.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 12 cm and height 10 cm. The prism is 5 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 300 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 12 × 10 = 60 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 60 × 5
- = 300 cm3
6.A cylinder has a radius of 7 cm and a height of 7 cm. Find its volume, correct to 1 decimal place.
Answer: 1077.6 cm3
- V = π × r2 × h = π × 72 × 7
- = π × 343
- ≈ 1077.6 cm3
7.A cylinder has a radius of 8 cm and a height of 9 cm. Find its volume, correct to 1 decimal place.
Answer: 1809.6 cm3
- V = π × r2 × h = π × 82 × 9
- = π × 576
- ≈ 1809.6 cm3
8.A rectangular prism has a volume of 198 cm3. Its base is 11 cm by 2 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 9 cm
- Base area = 11 × 2 = 22 cm2
- Height = 198 ÷ 22 = 9 cm
9.A cylinder has a radius of 2 cm and a height of 17 cm. Find its volume, correct to 1 decimal place.
Answer: 213.6 cm3
- V = π × r2 × h = π × 22 × 17
- = π × 68
- ≈ 213.6 cm3
10.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 8 cm and height 10 cm. The prism is 4 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 160 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 8 × 10 = 40 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 40 × 4
- = 160 cm3
Marking tips
- Give credit for correct method even when the final answer slips — the working shows where the thinking went right.
- For open-ended tasks, use the success criteria as a checklist rather than looking for one "right" answer.
- Celebrate what went well first, then pick one thing to work on next.
