Year 5 Number Lines Worksheet — Level 2 — Answers
First find how much each space is worth: (end − start) ÷ number of spaces.
1.A number line goes from 600 to 1,600 and is split into 10 equal spaces. The arrow is 1 space along from 600. What number does the arrow point to?
Answer: 700
- Each space is (1,600 − 600) ÷ 10 = 100
- 600 + 1 × 100 = 700
2.A number line goes from 100 to 300 and is split into 4 equal spaces. The arrow is 2 spaces along from 100. What number does the arrow point to?
Answer: 200
- Each space is (300 − 100) ÷ 4 = 50
- 100 + 2 × 50 = 200
3.What number is halfway between 290 and 830?
Answer: 560
- 830 − 290 = 540; half of that is 270
- 290 + 270 = 560
4.A number line goes from 500 to 1,000 and is split into 5 equal spaces. The arrow is 4 spaces along from 500. What number does the arrow point to?
Answer: 900
- Each space is (1,000 − 500) ÷ 5 = 100
- 500 + 4 × 100 = 900
5.A number line goes from 300 to 1,300 and is split into 10 equal spaces. The arrow is 3 spaces along from 300. What number does the arrow point to?
Answer: 600
- Each space is (1,300 − 300) ÷ 10 = 100
- 300 + 3 × 100 = 600
6.What number is halfway between 310 and 550?
Answer: 430
- 550 − 310 = 240; half of that is 120
- 310 + 120 = 430
7.A number line goes from 100 to 350 and is split into 5 equal spaces. The arrow is 3 spaces along from 100. What number does the arrow point to?
Answer: 250
- Each space is (350 − 100) ÷ 5 = 50
- 100 + 3 × 50 = 250
8.A number line goes from 600 to 1,000 and is split into 4 equal spaces. The arrow is 2 spaces along from 600. What number does the arrow point to?
Answer: 800
- Each space is (1,000 − 600) ÷ 4 = 100
- 600 + 2 × 100 = 800
9.What number is halfway between 350 and 410?
Answer: 380
- 410 − 350 = 60; half of that is 30
- 350 + 30 = 380
10.A number line goes from 6,000 to 8,500 and is split into 10 equal spaces. The arrow is 9 spaces along from 6,000. What number does the arrow point to?
Answer: 8,250
- Each space is (8,500 − 6,000) ÷ 10 = 250
- 6,000 + 9 × 250 = 8,250
Marking tips
- Give credit for correct method even when the final answer slips — the working shows where the thinking went right.
- For open-ended tasks, use the success criteria as a checklist rather than looking for one "right" answer.
- Celebrate what went well first, then pick one thing to work on next.
