Year 5 Volume of Prisms and Cylinders Worksheet — Level 2 — Practice Set 4 — Answers
Show your working. Volume is measured in cubic units (cm³).
1.A rectangular prism has a volume of 480 cm3. Its base is 6 cm by 10 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 8 cm
- Base area = 6 × 10 = 60 cm2
- Height = 480 ÷ 60 = 8 cm
2.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 12 cm and height 6 cm. The prism is 6 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 216 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 12 × 6 = 36 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 36 × 6
- = 216 cm3
3.A rectangular prism is 13 cm long, 2 cm wide and 5 cm high. Find its volume.
Answer: 130 cm3
- V = length × width × height = 13 × 2 × 5
- = 130 cm3
4.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 16 cm and height 3 cm. The prism is 10 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 240 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 16 × 3 = 24 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 24 × 10
- = 240 cm3
5.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 22 cm and height 4 cm. The prism is 11 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 484 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 22 × 4 = 44 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 44 × 11
- = 484 cm3
6.A rectangular prism is 5 cm long, 2 cm wide and 8 cm high. Find its volume.
Answer: 80 cm3
- V = length × width × height = 5 × 2 × 8
- = 80 cm3
7.A rectangular prism is 10 cm long, 2 cm wide and 4 cm high. Find its volume.
Answer: 80 cm3
- V = length × width × height = 10 × 2 × 4
- = 80 cm3
8.A rectangular prism is 13 cm long, 8 cm wide and 3 cm high. Find its volume.
Answer: 312 cm3
- V = length × width × height = 13 × 8 × 3
- = 312 cm3
9.A rectangular prism has a volume of 672 cm3. Its base is 12 cm by 8 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 7 cm
- Base area = 12 × 8 = 96 cm2
- Height = 672 ÷ 96 = 7 cm
10.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 22 cm and height 10 cm. The prism is 4 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 440 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 22 × 10 = 110 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 110 × 4
- = 440 cm3
Marking tips
- Give credit for correct method even when the final answer slips — the working shows where the thinking went right.
- For open-ended tasks, use the success criteria as a checklist rather than looking for one "right" answer.
- Celebrate what went well first, then pick one thing to work on next.
