1.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 24 cm and height 10 cm. The prism is 8 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 960 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 24 × 10 = 120 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 120 × 8
- = 960 cm3
2.A rectangular prism has a volume of 36 cm3. Its base is 3 cm by 6 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 2 cm
- Base area = 3 × 6 = 18 cm2
- Height = 36 ÷ 18 = 2 cm
3.A rectangular prism has a volume of 112 cm3. Its base is 7 cm by 2 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 8 cm
- Base area = 7 × 2 = 14 cm2
- Height = 112 ÷ 14 = 8 cm
4.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 20 cm and height 8 cm. The prism is 4 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 320 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 20 × 8 = 80 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 80 × 4
- = 320 cm3
5.A cylinder has a radius of 2 cm and a height of 15 cm. Find its volume, correct to 1 decimal place.
Answer: 188.5 cm3
- V = π × r2 × h = π × 22 × 15
- = π × 60
- ≈ 188.5 cm3
6.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 22 cm and height 9 cm. The prism is 3 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 297 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 22 × 9 = 99 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 99 × 3
- = 297 cm3
7.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 8 cm and height 8 cm. The prism is 13 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 416 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 8 × 8 = 32 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 32 × 13
- = 416 cm3
8.A rectangular prism has a volume of 315 cm3. Its base is 9 cm by 5 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 7 cm
- Base area = 9 × 5 = 45 cm2
- Height = 315 ÷ 45 = 7 cm
9.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 20 cm and height 6 cm. The prism is 9 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 540 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 20 × 6 = 60 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 60 × 9
- = 540 cm3
10.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 24 cm and height 9 cm. The prism is 8 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 864 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 24 × 9 = 108 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 108 × 8
- = 864 cm3
Marking tips
- Give credit for correct method even when the final answer slips — the working shows where the thinking went right.
- For open-ended tasks, use the success criteria as a checklist rather than looking for one "right" answer.
- Celebrate what went well first, then pick one thing to work on next.
