1.A rectangular prism has a volume of 480 cm3. Its base is 12 cm by 10 cm. Find its height.

Answer: 4 cm

  1. Base area = 12 × 10 = 120 cm2
  2. Height = 480 ÷ 120 = 4 cm
2.A rectangular prism has a volume of 486 cm3. Its base is 9 cm by 6 cm. Find its height.

Answer: 9 cm

  1. Base area = 9 × 6 = 54 cm2
  2. Height = 486 ÷ 54 = 9 cm
3.A rectangular prism has a volume of 330 cm3. Its base is 11 cm by 10 cm. Find its height.

Answer: 3 cm

  1. Base area = 11 × 10 = 110 cm2
  2. Height = 330 ÷ 110 = 3 cm
4.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 4 cm and height 8 cm. The prism is 5 cm long. Find its volume.

Answer: 80 cm3

  1. Area of the triangle = ½ × 4 × 8 = 16 cm2
  2. V = area of end × length = 16 × 5
  3. = 80 cm3
5.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 22 cm and height 5 cm. The prism is 8 cm long. Find its volume.

Answer: 440 cm3

  1. Area of the triangle = ½ × 22 × 5 = 55 cm2
  2. V = area of end × length = 55 × 8
  3. = 440 cm3
6.A rectangular prism has a volume of 360 cm3. Its base is 4 cm by 10 cm. Find its height.

Answer: 9 cm

  1. Base area = 4 × 10 = 40 cm2
  2. Height = 360 ÷ 40 = 9 cm
7.A cylinder has a radius of 6 cm and a height of 9 cm. Find its volume, correct to 1 decimal place.

Answer: 1017.9 cm3

  1. V = π × r2 × h = π × 62 × 9
  2. = π × 324
  3. ≈ 1017.9 cm3
8.A cylinder has a radius of 4 cm and a height of 7 cm. Find its volume, correct to 1 decimal place.

Answer: 351.9 cm3

  1. V = π × r2 × h = π × 42 × 7
  2. = π × 112
  3. ≈ 351.9 cm3
9.A rectangular prism has a volume of 315 cm3. Its base is 5 cm by 9 cm. Find its height.

Answer: 7 cm

  1. Base area = 5 × 9 = 45 cm2
  2. Height = 315 ÷ 45 = 7 cm
10.A cylinder has a radius of 5 cm and a height of 7 cm. Find its volume, correct to 1 decimal place.

Answer: 549.8 cm3

  1. V = π × r2 × h = π × 52 × 7
  2. = π × 175
  3. ≈ 549.8 cm3

Marking tips

  • Give credit for correct method even when the final answer slips — the working shows where the thinking went right.
  • For open-ended tasks, use the success criteria as a checklist rather than looking for one "right" answer.
  • Celebrate what went well first, then pick one thing to work on next.
