1.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 24 cm and height 9 cm. The prism is 8 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 864 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 24 × 9 = 108 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 108 × 8
- = 864 cm3
2.A rectangular prism has a volume of 168 cm3. Its base is 7 cm by 8 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 3 cm
- Base area = 7 × 8 = 56 cm2
- Height = 168 ÷ 56 = 3 cm
3.A rectangular prism has a volume of 112 cm3. Its base is 7 cm by 2 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 8 cm
- Base area = 7 × 2 = 14 cm2
- Height = 112 ÷ 14 = 8 cm
4.A cylinder has a radius of 4 cm and a height of 20 cm. Find its volume, correct to 1 decimal place.
Answer: 1005.3 cm3
- V = π × r2 × h = π × 42 × 20
- = π × 320
- ≈ 1005.3 cm3
5.A rectangular prism has a volume of 32 cm3. Its base is 8 cm by 2 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 2 cm
- Base area = 8 × 2 = 16 cm2
- Height = 32 ÷ 16 = 2 cm
6.A cylinder has a radius of 4 cm and a height of 11 cm. Find its volume, correct to 1 decimal place.
Answer: 552.9 cm3
- V = π × r2 × h = π × 42 × 11
- = π × 176
- ≈ 552.9 cm3
7.A rectangular prism has a volume of 225 cm3. Its base is 5 cm by 9 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 5 cm
- Base area = 5 × 9 = 45 cm2
- Height = 225 ÷ 45 = 5 cm
8.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 10 cm and height 9 cm. The prism is 7 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 315 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 10 × 9 = 45 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 45 × 7
- = 315 cm3
9.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 22 cm and height 3 cm. The prism is 6 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 198 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 22 × 3 = 33 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 33 × 6
- = 198 cm3
10.A rectangular prism has a volume of 90 cm3. Its base is 5 cm by 9 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 2 cm
- Base area = 5 × 9 = 45 cm2
- Height = 90 ÷ 45 = 2 cm
Marking tips
- Give credit for correct method even when the final answer slips — the working shows where the thinking went right.
- For open-ended tasks, use the success criteria as a checklist rather than looking for one "right" answer.
- Celebrate what went well first, then pick one thing to work on next.
