Year 7 Volume of Prisms and Cylinders Worksheet — Level 2 — Answers
Show your working. Volume is measured in cubic units (cm³).
1.A rectangular prism has a volume of 144 cm3. Its base is 4 cm by 6 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 6 cm
- Base area = 4 × 6 = 24 cm2
- Height = 144 ÷ 24 = 6 cm
2.A rectangular prism has a volume of 100 cm3. Its base is 4 cm by 5 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 5 cm
- Base area = 4 × 5 = 20 cm2
- Height = 100 ÷ 20 = 5 cm
3.A rectangular prism has a volume of 264 cm3. Its base is 11 cm by 6 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 4 cm
- Base area = 11 × 6 = 66 cm2
- Height = 264 ÷ 66 = 4 cm
4.A rectangular prism is 10 cm long, 3 cm wide and 8 cm high. Find its volume.
Answer: 240 cm3
- V = length × width × height = 10 × 3 × 8
- = 240 cm3
5.A rectangular prism has a volume of 972 cm3. Its base is 12 cm by 9 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 9 cm
- Base area = 12 × 9 = 108 cm2
- Height = 972 ÷ 108 = 9 cm
6.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 18 cm and height 8 cm. The prism is 6 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 432 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 18 × 8 = 72 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 72 × 6
- = 432 cm3
7.A rectangular prism is 4 cm long, 4 cm wide and 10 cm high. Find its volume.
Answer: 160 cm3
- V = length × width × height = 4 × 4 × 10
- = 160 cm3
8.A rectangular prism has a volume of 256 cm3. Its base is 4 cm by 8 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 8 cm
- Base area = 4 × 8 = 32 cm2
- Height = 256 ÷ 32 = 8 cm
9.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 20 cm and height 2 cm. The prism is 6 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 120 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 20 × 2 = 20 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 20 × 6
- = 120 cm3
10.A rectangular prism is 5 cm long, 7 cm wide and 5 cm high. Find its volume.
Answer: 175 cm3
- V = length × width × height = 5 × 7 × 5
- = 175 cm3
Marking tips
- Give credit for correct method even when the final answer slips — the working shows where the thinking went right.
- For open-ended tasks, use the success criteria as a checklist rather than looking for one "right" answer.
- Celebrate what went well first, then pick one thing to work on next.
