1.A rectangular prism has a volume of 630 cm3. Its base is 7 cm by 10 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 9 cm
- Base area = 7 × 10 = 70 cm2
- Height = 630 ÷ 70 = 9 cm
2.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 16 cm and height 2 cm. The prism is 7 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 112 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 16 × 2 = 16 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 16 × 7
- = 112 cm3
3.A rectangular prism has a volume of 245 cm3. Its base is 7 cm by 7 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 5 cm
- Base area = 7 × 7 = 49 cm2
- Height = 245 ÷ 49 = 5 cm
4.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 22 cm and height 10 cm. The prism is 8 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 880 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 22 × 10 = 110 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 110 × 8
- = 880 cm3
5.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 18 cm and height 4 cm. The prism is 9 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 324 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 18 × 4 = 36 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 36 × 9
- = 324 cm3
6.A rectangular prism has a volume of 240 cm3. Its base is 8 cm by 6 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 5 cm
- Base area = 8 × 6 = 48 cm2
- Height = 240 ÷ 48 = 5 cm
7.A rectangular prism has a volume of 72 cm3. Its base is 3 cm by 8 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 3 cm
- Base area = 3 × 8 = 24 cm2
- Height = 72 ÷ 24 = 3 cm
8.A rectangular prism has a volume of 360 cm3. Its base is 5 cm by 8 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 9 cm
- Base area = 5 × 8 = 40 cm2
- Height = 360 ÷ 40 = 9 cm
9.A cylinder has a radius of 5 cm and a height of 6 cm. Find its volume, correct to 1 decimal place.
Answer: 471.2 cm3
- V = π × r2 × h = π × 52 × 6
- = π × 150
- ≈ 471.2 cm3
10.A rectangular prism has a volume of 336 cm3. Its base is 7 cm by 6 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 8 cm
- Base area = 7 × 6 = 42 cm2
- Height = 336 ÷ 42 = 8 cm
Marking tips
- Give credit for correct method even when the final answer slips — the working shows where the thinking went right.
- For open-ended tasks, use the success criteria as a checklist rather than looking for one "right" answer.
- Celebrate what went well first, then pick one thing to work on next.
