1.A rectangular prism has a volume of 648 cm3. Its base is 8 cm by 9 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 9 cm
- Base area = 8 × 9 = 72 cm2
- Height = 648 ÷ 72 = 9 cm
2.A rectangular prism has a volume of 48 cm3. Its base is 8 cm by 3 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 2 cm
- Base area = 8 × 3 = 24 cm2
- Height = 48 ÷ 24 = 2 cm
3.A cylinder has a radius of 3 cm and a height of 4 cm. Find its volume, correct to 1 decimal place.
Answer: 113.1 cm3
- V = π × r2 × h = π × 32 × 4
- = π × 36
- ≈ 113.1 cm3
4.A rectangular prism has a volume of 440 cm3. Its base is 11 cm by 5 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 8 cm
- Base area = 11 × 5 = 55 cm2
- Height = 440 ÷ 55 = 8 cm
5.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 20 cm and height 8 cm. The prism is 5 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 400 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 20 × 8 = 80 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 80 × 5
- = 400 cm3
6.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 20 cm and height 5 cm. The prism is 10 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 500 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 20 × 5 = 50 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 50 × 10
- = 500 cm3
7.A rectangular prism has a volume of 336 cm3. Its base is 12 cm by 7 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 4 cm
- Base area = 12 × 7 = 84 cm2
- Height = 336 ÷ 84 = 4 cm
8.A rectangular prism has a volume of 132 cm3. Its base is 11 cm by 4 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 3 cm
- Base area = 11 × 4 = 44 cm2
- Height = 132 ÷ 44 = 3 cm
9.A cylinder has a radius of 7 cm and a height of 10 cm. Find its volume, correct to 1 decimal place.
Answer: 1539.4 cm3
- V = π × r2 × h = π × 72 × 10
- = π × 490
- ≈ 1539.4 cm3
10.A rectangular prism has a volume of 378 cm3. Its base is 7 cm by 9 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 6 cm
- Base area = 7 × 9 = 63 cm2
- Height = 378 ÷ 63 = 6 cm
Marking tips
- Give credit for correct method even when the final answer slips — the working shows where the thinking went right.
- For open-ended tasks, use the success criteria as a checklist rather than looking for one "right" answer.
- Celebrate what went well first, then pick one thing to work on next.
