10th Grade Slope and Linear Equations Worksheet — Level 1 — Practice Set 3 — Answers

Show your work. Slope = rise ÷ run; the equation of a line can be written as y = (slope)x + (y-intercept).

1.Find the slope of the line through (0, −2) and (1, 1).

Answer: 3

  1. slope = rise ÷ run = (1 − (−2)) ÷ (1 − 0)
  2. = 3 ÷ 1 = 3
2.Find the slope of the line through (−3, 5) and (−6, −4).

Answer: 3

  1. slope = rise ÷ run = (−4 − 5) ÷ (−6 − (−3))
  2. = −9 ÷ −3 = 3
3.Find the slope of the line through (−2, 4) and (−1, 3).

Answer: −1

  1. slope = rise ÷ run = (3 − 4) ÷ (−1 − (−2))
  2. = −1 ÷ 1 = −1
4.Find the slope of the line through (5, −3) and (9, −15).

Answer: −3

  1. slope = rise ÷ run = (−15 − (−3)) ÷ (9 − 5)
  2. = −12 ÷ 4 = −3
5.Find the slope of the line through (6, 4) and (10, 8).

Answer: 1

  1. slope = rise ÷ run = (8 − 4) ÷ (10 − 6)
  2. = 4 ÷ 4 = 1
6.Find the slope of the line through (−6, 2) and (−5, 5).

Answer: 3

  1. slope = rise ÷ run = (5 − 2) ÷ (−5 − (−6))
  2. = 3 ÷ 1 = 3
7.Find the slope of the line through (−6, −2) and (−9, 1).

Answer: −1

  1. slope = rise ÷ run = (1 − (−2)) ÷ (−9 − (−6))
  2. = 3 ÷ −3 = −1
8.Find the slope of the line through (−1, 0) and (2, −3).

Answer: −1

  1. slope = rise ÷ run = (−3 − 0) ÷ (2 − (−1))
  2. = −3 ÷ 3 = −1
9.Find the slope of the line through (4, −6) and (9, −11).

Answer: −1

  1. slope = rise ÷ run = (−11 − (−6)) ÷ (9 − 4)
  2. = −5 ÷ 5 = −1
10.Find the slope of the line through (−4, 1) and (1, 16).

Answer: 3

  1. slope = rise ÷ run = (16 − 1) ÷ (1 − (−4))
  2. = 15 ÷ 5 = 3

Marking tips

  • Give credit for correct method even when the final answer slips — the working shows where the thinking went right.
  • For open-ended tasks, use the success criteria as a checklist rather than looking for one "right" answer.
  • Celebrate what went well first, then pick one thing to work on next.
