10th Grade Trigonometry (Finding Sides) Worksheet — Level 2 — Answers
Label the sides (opposite, adjacent, hypotenuse), choose the ratio (SOH CAH TOA), then solve.
1.In a right triangle, the hypotenuse is 7 cm and one angle is 40°. Find the side adjacent to the 40° angle, to 1 decimal place.
Answer: 5.4 cm
- cos 40° = adjacent ÷ hypotenuse
- adjacent = 7 × cos 40°
- ≈ 5.4
2.In a right triangle, the side adjacent to a 52° angle is 16 m. Find the opposite side, to 1 decimal place.
Answer: 20.5 m
- tan 52° = opposite ÷ adjacent
- opposite = 16 × tan 52°
- ≈ 20.5
3.In a right triangle, the hypotenuse is 5 cm and one angle is 70°. Find the side adjacent to the 70° angle, to 1 decimal place.
Answer: 1.7 cm
- cos 70° = adjacent ÷ hypotenuse
- adjacent = 5 × cos 70°
- ≈ 1.7
4.In a right triangle, the side adjacent to a 37° angle is 11 m. Find the opposite side, to 1 decimal place.
Answer: 8.3 m
- tan 37° = opposite ÷ adjacent
- opposite = 11 × tan 37°
- ≈ 8.3
5.In a right triangle, the hypotenuse is 30 cm and one angle is 33°. Find the side adjacent to the 33° angle, to 1 decimal place.
Answer: 25.2 cm
- cos 33° = adjacent ÷ hypotenuse
- adjacent = 30 × cos 33°
- ≈ 25.2
6.In a right triangle, the hypotenuse is 12 cm and one angle is 58°. Find the side opposite the 58° angle, to 1 decimal place.
Answer: 10.2 cm
- sin 58° = opposite ÷ hypotenuse
- opposite = 12 × sin 58°
- ≈ 10.2
7.In a right triangle, the hypotenuse is 13 cm and one angle is 23°. Find the side opposite the 23° angle, to 1 decimal place.
Answer: 5.1 cm
- sin 23° = opposite ÷ hypotenuse
- opposite = 13 × sin 23°
- ≈ 5.1
8.In a right triangle, the side adjacent to a 58° angle is 15 m. Find the opposite side, to 1 decimal place.
Answer: 24 m
- tan 58° = opposite ÷ adjacent
- opposite = 15 × tan 58°
- ≈ 24
Marking tips
- Give credit for correct method even when the final answer slips — the working shows where the thinking went right.
- For open-ended tasks, use the success criteria as a checklist rather than looking for one "right" answer.
- Celebrate what went well first, then pick one thing to work on next.
