11th Grade Trigonometry (Finding Sides) Worksheet — Level 3 — Answers
Label the sides (opposite, adjacent, hypotenuse), choose the ratio (SOH CAH TOA), then solve.
1.In a right triangle, the hypotenuse is 7 cm and one angle is 66°. Find the side adjacent to the 66° angle, to 1 decimal place.
Answer: 2.8 cm
- cos 66° = adjacent ÷ hypotenuse
- adjacent = 7 × cos 66°
- ≈ 2.8
2.In a right triangle, the side adjacent to a 52° angle is 8 m. Find the opposite side, to 1 decimal place.
Answer: 10.2 m
- tan 52° = opposite ÷ adjacent
- opposite = 8 × tan 52°
- ≈ 10.2
3.In a right triangle, the hypotenuse is 14 cm and one angle is 43°. Find the side opposite the 43° angle, to 1 decimal place.
Answer: 9.5 cm
- sin 43° = opposite ÷ hypotenuse
- opposite = 14 × sin 43°
- ≈ 9.5
4.In a right triangle, the side adjacent to a 22° angle is 12 m. Find the opposite side, to 1 decimal place.
Answer: 4.8 m
- tan 22° = opposite ÷ adjacent
- opposite = 12 × tan 22°
- ≈ 4.8
5.In a right triangle, the hypotenuse is 26 cm and one angle is 65°. Find the side adjacent to the 65° angle, to 1 decimal place.
Answer: 11 cm
- cos 65° = adjacent ÷ hypotenuse
- adjacent = 26 × cos 65°
- ≈ 11
6.In a right triangle, the side adjacent to a 31° angle is 6 m. Find the opposite side, to 1 decimal place.
Answer: 3.6 m
- tan 31° = opposite ÷ adjacent
- opposite = 6 × tan 31°
- ≈ 3.6
7.In a right triangle, the side adjacent to a 62° angle is 10 m. Find the opposite side, to 1 decimal place.
Answer: 18.8 m
- tan 62° = opposite ÷ adjacent
- opposite = 10 × tan 62°
- ≈ 18.8
8.In a right triangle, the hypotenuse is 15 cm and one angle is 27°. Find the side opposite the 27° angle, to 1 decimal place.
Answer: 6.8 cm
- sin 27° = opposite ÷ hypotenuse
- opposite = 15 × sin 27°
- ≈ 6.8
Marking tips
- Give credit for correct method even when the final answer slips — the working shows where the thinking went right.
- For open-ended tasks, use the success criteria as a checklist rather than looking for one "right" answer.
- Celebrate what went well first, then pick one thing to work on next.
