2nd Grade Number Lines Worksheet — Level 2 — Answers

First find how much each space is worth: (end − start) ÷ number of spaces.

1.A number line goes from 600 to 850 and is split into 10 equal spaces. The arrow is 8 spaces along from 600. What number does the arrow point to?

Answer: 800

  1. Each space is (850 − 600) ÷ 10 = 25
  2. 600 + 8 × 25 = 800
2.A number line goes from 500 to 1,000 and is split into 10 equal spaces. The arrow is 8 spaces along from 500. What number does the arrow point to?

Answer: 900

  1. Each space is (1,000 − 500) ÷ 10 = 50
  2. 500 + 8 × 50 = 900
3.What number is halfway between 220 and 320?

Answer: 270

  1. 320 − 220 = 100; half of that is 50
  2. 220 + 50 = 270
4.A number line goes from 600 to 725 and is split into 5 equal spaces. The arrow is 4 spaces along from 600. What number does the arrow point to?

Answer: 700

  1. Each space is (725 − 600) ÷ 5 = 25
  2. 600 + 4 × 25 = 700
5.A number line goes from 800 to 1,050 and is split into 5 equal spaces. The arrow is 3 spaces along from 800. What number does the arrow point to?

Answer: 950

  1. Each space is (1,050 − 800) ÷ 5 = 50
  2. 800 + 3 × 50 = 950
6.What number is halfway between 180 and 400?

Answer: 290

  1. 400 − 180 = 220; half of that is 110
  2. 180 + 110 = 290
7.A number line goes from 300 to 500 and is split into 10 equal spaces. The arrow is 3 spaces along from 300. What number does the arrow point to?

Answer: 360

  1. Each space is (500 − 300) ÷ 10 = 20
  2. 300 + 3 × 20 = 360
8.A number line goes from 8,000 to 10,500 and is split into 10 equal spaces. The arrow is 2 spaces along from 8,000. What number does the arrow point to?

Answer: 8,500

  1. Each space is (10,500 − 8,000) ÷ 10 = 250
  2. 8,000 + 2 × 250 = 8,500
9.What number is halfway between 210 and 390?

Answer: 300

  1. 390 − 210 = 180; half of that is 90
  2. 210 + 90 = 300
10.A number line goes from 100 to 600 and is split into 10 equal spaces. The arrow is 9 spaces along from 100. What number does the arrow point to?

Answer: 550

  1. Each space is (600 − 100) ÷ 10 = 50
  2. 100 + 9 × 50 = 550

Marking tips

  • Give credit for correct method even when the final answer slips — the working shows where the thinking went right.
  • For open-ended tasks, use the success criteria as a checklist rather than looking for one "right" answer.
  • Celebrate what went well first, then pick one thing to work on next.
