2nd Grade Number Lines Worksheet — Level 2 — Practice Set 4 — Answers

First find how much each space is worth: (end − start) ÷ number of spaces.

1.A number line goes from 900 to 1,100 and is split into 4 equal spaces. The arrow is 2 spaces along from 900. What number does the arrow point to?

Answer: 1,000

  1. Each space is (1,100 − 900) ÷ 4 = 50
  2. 900 + 2 × 50 = 1,000
2.A number line goes from 600 to 700 and is split into 5 equal spaces. The arrow is 2 spaces along from 600. What number does the arrow point to?

Answer: 640

  1. Each space is (700 − 600) ÷ 5 = 20
  2. 600 + 2 × 20 = 640
3.What number is halfway between 150 and 490?

Answer: 320

  1. 490 − 150 = 340; half of that is 170
  2. 150 + 170 = 320
4.A number line goes from 300 to 800 and is split into 5 equal spaces. The arrow is 4 spaces along from 300. What number does the arrow point to?

Answer: 700

  1. Each space is (800 − 300) ÷ 5 = 100
  2. 300 + 4 × 100 = 700
5.A number line goes from 700 to 1,200 and is split into 10 equal spaces. The arrow is 1 space along from 700. What number does the arrow point to?

Answer: 750

  1. Each space is (1,200 − 700) ÷ 10 = 50
  2. 700 + 1 × 50 = 750
6.What number is halfway between 170 and 750?

Answer: 460

  1. 750 − 170 = 580; half of that is 290
  2. 170 + 290 = 460
7.A number line goes from 200 to 300 and is split into 5 equal spaces. The arrow is 2 spaces along from 200. What number does the arrow point to?

Answer: 240

  1. Each space is (300 − 200) ÷ 5 = 20
  2. 200 + 2 × 20 = 240
8.A number line goes from 900 to 1,400 and is split into 5 equal spaces. The arrow is 4 spaces along from 900. What number does the arrow point to?

Answer: 1,300

  1. Each space is (1,400 − 900) ÷ 5 = 100
  2. 900 + 4 × 100 = 1,300
9.What number is halfway between 140 and 600?

Answer: 370

  1. 600 − 140 = 460; half of that is 230
  2. 140 + 230 = 370
10.A number line goes from 100 to 350 and is split into 10 equal spaces. The arrow is 2 spaces along from 100. What number does the arrow point to?

Answer: 150

  1. Each space is (350 − 100) ÷ 10 = 25
  2. 100 + 2 × 25 = 150

Marking tips

  • Give credit for correct method even when the final answer slips — the working shows where the thinking went right.
  • For open-ended tasks, use the success criteria as a checklist rather than looking for one "right" answer.
  • Celebrate what went well first, then pick one thing to work on next.
