4th Grade Number Lines Worksheet — Level 2 — Practice Set 4 — Answers
First find how much each space is worth: (end − start) ÷ number of spaces.
1.A number line goes from 600 to 850 and is split into 5 equal spaces. The arrow is 3 spaces along from 600. What number does the arrow point to?
Answer: 750
- Each space is (850 − 600) ÷ 5 = 50
- 600 + 3 × 50 = 750
2.A number line goes from 600 to 800 and is split into 10 equal spaces. The arrow is 3 spaces along from 600. What number does the arrow point to?
Answer: 660
- Each space is (800 − 600) ÷ 10 = 20
- 600 + 3 × 20 = 660
3.What number is halfway between 20 and 580?
Answer: 300
- 580 − 20 = 560; half of that is 280
- 20 + 280 = 300
4.A number line goes from 500 to 900 and is split into 4 equal spaces. The arrow is 1 space along from 500. What number does the arrow point to?
Answer: 600
- Each space is (900 − 500) ÷ 4 = 100
- 500 + 1 × 100 = 600
5.A number line goes from 0 to 1,250 and is split into 5 equal spaces. The arrow is 3 spaces along from 0. What number does the arrow point to?
Answer: 750
- Each space is (1,250 − 0) ÷ 5 = 250
- 0 + 3 × 250 = 750
6.What number is halfway between 30 and 130?
Answer: 80
- 130 − 30 = 100; half of that is 50
- 30 + 50 = 80
7.A number line goes from 0 to 250 and is split into 10 equal spaces. The arrow is 1 space along from 0. What number does the arrow point to?
Answer: 25
- Each space is (250 − 0) ÷ 10 = 25
- 0 + 1 × 25 = 25
8.A number line goes from 0 to 200 and is split into 4 equal spaces. The arrow is 3 spaces along from 0. What number does the arrow point to?
Answer: 150
- Each space is (200 − 0) ÷ 4 = 50
- 0 + 3 × 50 = 150
9.What number is halfway between 220 and 760?
Answer: 490
- 760 − 220 = 540; half of that is 270
- 220 + 270 = 490
10.A number line goes from 400 to 900 and is split into 5 equal spaces. The arrow is 3 spaces along from 400. What number does the arrow point to?
Answer: 700
- Each space is (900 − 400) ÷ 5 = 100
- 400 + 3 × 100 = 700
Marking tips
- Give credit for correct method even when the final answer slips — the working shows where the thinking went right.
- For open-ended tasks, use the success criteria as a checklist rather than looking for one "right" answer.
- Celebrate what went well first, then pick one thing to work on next.
