1.A rectangular prism has a volume of 378 cm3. Its base is 6 cm by 9 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 7 cm
- Base area = 6 × 9 = 54 cm2
- Height = 378 ÷ 54 = 7 cm
2.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 24 cm and height 8 cm. The prism is 6 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 576 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 24 × 8 = 96 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 96 × 6
- = 576 cm3
3.A rectangular prism has a volume of 60 cm3. Its base is 3 cm by 4 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 5 cm
- Base area = 3 × 4 = 12 cm2
- Height = 60 ÷ 12 = 5 cm
4.A cylinder has a radius of 7 cm and a height of 10 cm. Find its volume, correct to 1 decimal place.
Answer: 1539.4 cm3
- V = π × r2 × h = π × 72 × 10
- = π × 490
- ≈ 1539.4 cm3
5.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 20 cm and height 10 cm. The prism is 5 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 500 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 20 × 10 = 100 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 100 × 5
- = 500 cm3
6.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 18 cm and height 3 cm. The prism is 14 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 378 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 18 × 3 = 27 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 27 × 14
- = 378 cm3
7.A rectangular prism has a volume of 450 cm3. Its base is 10 cm by 5 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 9 cm
- Base area = 10 × 5 = 50 cm2
- Height = 450 ÷ 50 = 9 cm
8.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 4 cm and height 9 cm. The prism is 12 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 216 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 4 × 9 = 18 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 18 × 12
- = 216 cm3
9.A cylinder has a radius of 9 cm and a height of 14 cm. Find its volume, correct to 1 decimal place.
Answer: 3562.6 cm3
- V = π × r2 × h = π × 92 × 14
- = π × 1134
- ≈ 3562.6 cm3
10.A cylinder has a radius of 10 cm and a height of 6 cm. Find its volume, correct to 1 decimal place.
Answer: 1885.0 cm3
- V = π × r2 × h = π × 102 × 6
- = π × 600
- ≈ 1885.0 cm3
Marking tips
- Give credit for correct method even when the final answer slips — the working shows where the thinking went right.
- For open-ended tasks, use the success criteria as a checklist rather than looking for one "right" answer.
- Celebrate what went well first, then pick one thing to work on next.
