6th Grade Number Lines Worksheet — Level 2 — Practice Set 2 — Answers
First find how much each space is worth: (end − start) ÷ number of spaces.
1.A number line goes from 400 to 600 and is split into 10 equal spaces. The arrow is 6 spaces along from 400. What number does the arrow point to?
Answer: 520
- Each space is (600 − 400) ÷ 10 = 20
- 400 + 6 × 20 = 520
2.A number line goes from 300 to 380 and is split into 4 equal spaces. The arrow is 2 spaces along from 300. What number does the arrow point to?
Answer: 340
- Each space is (380 − 300) ÷ 4 = 20
- 300 + 2 × 20 = 340
3.What number is halfway between 170 and 670?
Answer: 420
- 670 − 170 = 500; half of that is 250
- 170 + 250 = 420
4.A number line goes from 200 to 400 and is split into 10 equal spaces. The arrow is 9 spaces along from 200. What number does the arrow point to?
Answer: 380
- Each space is (400 − 200) ÷ 10 = 20
- 200 + 9 × 20 = 380
5.A number line goes from 500 to 625 and is split into 5 equal spaces. The arrow is 3 spaces along from 500. What number does the arrow point to?
Answer: 575
- Each space is (625 − 500) ÷ 5 = 25
- 500 + 3 × 25 = 575
6.What number is halfway between 140 and 260?
Answer: 200
- 260 − 140 = 120; half of that is 60
- 140 + 60 = 200
7.A number line goes from 0 to 2,500 and is split into 10 equal spaces. The arrow is 8 spaces along from 0. What number does the arrow point to?
Answer: 2,000
- Each space is (2,500 − 0) ÷ 10 = 250
- 0 + 8 × 250 = 2,000
8.A number line goes from 700 to 800 and is split into 4 equal spaces. The arrow is 1 space along from 700. What number does the arrow point to?
Answer: 725
- Each space is (800 − 700) ÷ 4 = 25
- 700 + 1 × 25 = 725
9.What number is halfway between 90 and 430?
Answer: 260
- 430 − 90 = 340; half of that is 170
- 90 + 170 = 260
10.A number line goes from 1,000 to 2,250 and is split into 5 equal spaces. The arrow is 4 spaces along from 1,000. What number does the arrow point to?
Answer: 2,000
- Each space is (2,250 − 1,000) ÷ 5 = 250
- 1,000 + 4 × 250 = 2,000
Marking tips
- Give credit for correct method even when the final answer slips — the working shows where the thinking went right.
- For open-ended tasks, use the success criteria as a checklist rather than looking for one "right" answer.
- Celebrate what went well first, then pick one thing to work on next.
