6th Grade Number Lines Worksheet — Level 2 — Practice Set 3 — Answers
First find how much each space is worth: (end − start) ÷ number of spaces.
1.A number line goes from 200 to 1,200 and is split into 10 equal spaces. The arrow is 8 spaces along from 200. What number does the arrow point to?
Answer: 1,000
- Each space is (1,200 − 200) ÷ 10 = 100
- 200 + 8 × 100 = 1,000
2.A number line goes from 800 to 1,800 and is split into 10 equal spaces. The arrow is 5 spaces along from 800. What number does the arrow point to?
Answer: 1,300
- Each space is (1,800 − 800) ÷ 10 = 100
- 800 + 5 × 100 = 1,300
3.What number is halfway between 390 and 970?
Answer: 680
- 970 − 390 = 580; half of that is 290
- 390 + 290 = 680
4.A number line goes from 2,000 to 3,000 and is split into 4 equal spaces. The arrow is 1 space along from 2,000. What number does the arrow point to?
Answer: 2,250
- Each space is (3,000 − 2,000) ÷ 4 = 250
- 2,000 + 1 × 250 = 2,250
5.A number line goes from 100 to 350 and is split into 5 equal spaces. The arrow is 4 spaces along from 100. What number does the arrow point to?
Answer: 300
- Each space is (350 − 100) ÷ 5 = 50
- 100 + 4 × 50 = 300
6.What number is halfway between 160 and 500?
Answer: 330
- 500 − 160 = 340; half of that is 170
- 160 + 170 = 330
7.A number line goes from 800 to 1,000 and is split into 10 equal spaces. The arrow is 5 spaces along from 800. What number does the arrow point to?
Answer: 900
- Each space is (1,000 − 800) ÷ 10 = 20
- 800 + 5 × 20 = 900
8.A number line goes from 500 to 700 and is split into 4 equal spaces. The arrow is 2 spaces along from 500. What number does the arrow point to?
Answer: 600
- Each space is (700 − 500) ÷ 4 = 50
- 500 + 2 × 50 = 600
9.What number is halfway between 350 and 370?
Answer: 360
- 370 − 350 = 20; half of that is 10
- 350 + 10 = 360
10.A number line goes from 800 to 900 and is split into 5 equal spaces. The arrow is 1 space along from 800. What number does the arrow point to?
Answer: 820
- Each space is (900 − 800) ÷ 5 = 20
- 800 + 1 × 20 = 820
Marking tips
- Give credit for correct method even when the final answer slips — the working shows where the thinking went right.
- For open-ended tasks, use the success criteria as a checklist rather than looking for one "right" answer.
- Celebrate what went well first, then pick one thing to work on next.
