1.A rectangular prism has a volume of 720 cm3. Its base is 12 cm by 10 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 6 cm
- Base area = 12 × 10 = 120 cm2
- Height = 720 ÷ 120 = 6 cm
2.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 4 cm and height 7 cm. The prism is 14 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 196 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 4 × 7 = 14 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 14 × 14
- = 196 cm3
3.A rectangular prism has a volume of 84 cm3. Its base is 7 cm by 4 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 3 cm
- Base area = 7 × 4 = 28 cm2
- Height = 84 ÷ 28 = 3 cm
4.A rectangular prism has a volume of 243 cm3. Its base is 9 cm by 3 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 9 cm
- Base area = 9 × 3 = 27 cm2
- Height = 243 ÷ 27 = 9 cm
5.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 4 cm and height 4 cm. The prism is 7 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 56 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 4 × 4 = 8 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 8 × 7
- = 56 cm3
6.A rectangular prism has a volume of 88 cm3. Its base is 11 cm by 4 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 2 cm
- Base area = 11 × 4 = 44 cm2
- Height = 88 ÷ 44 = 2 cm
7.A cylinder has a radius of 4 cm and a height of 10 cm. Find its volume, correct to 1 decimal place.
Answer: 502.7 cm3
- V = π × r2 × h = π × 42 × 10
- = π × 160
- ≈ 502.7 cm3
8.A rectangular prism has a volume of 504 cm3. Its base is 8 cm by 9 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 7 cm
- Base area = 8 × 9 = 72 cm2
- Height = 504 ÷ 72 = 7 cm
9.A rectangular prism has a volume of 108 cm3. Its base is 3 cm by 4 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 9 cm
- Base area = 3 × 4 = 12 cm2
- Height = 108 ÷ 12 = 9 cm
10.A rectangular prism has a volume of 98 cm3. Its base is 7 cm by 7 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 2 cm
- Base area = 7 × 7 = 49 cm2
- Height = 98 ÷ 49 = 2 cm
Marking tips
- Give credit for correct method even when the final answer slips — the working shows where the thinking went right.
- For open-ended tasks, use the success criteria as a checklist rather than looking for one "right" answer.
- Celebrate what went well first, then pick one thing to work on next.
