6th Grade Volume of Prisms and Cylinders Worksheet — Level 2 — Practice Set 4 — Answers
Show your work. Volume is measured in cubic units (cm³).
1.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 18 cm and height 3 cm. The prism is 11 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 297 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 18 × 3 = 27 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 27 × 11
- = 297 cm3
2.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 14 cm and height 3 cm. The prism is 15 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 315 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 14 × 3 = 21 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 21 × 15
- = 315 cm3
3.A rectangular prism is 11 cm long, 6 cm wide and 7 cm high. Find its volume.
Answer: 462 cm3
- V = length × width × height = 11 × 6 × 7
- = 462 cm3
4.A rectangular prism has a volume of 168 cm3. Its base is 3 cm by 8 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 7 cm
- Base area = 3 × 8 = 24 cm2
- Height = 168 ÷ 24 = 7 cm
5.A rectangular prism is 13 cm long, 8 cm wide and 3 cm high. Find its volume.
Answer: 312 cm3
- V = length × width × height = 13 × 8 × 3
- = 312 cm3
6.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 4 cm and height 6 cm. The prism is 4 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 48 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 4 × 6 = 12 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 12 × 4
- = 48 cm3
7.A rectangular prism is 15 cm long, 10 cm wide and 9 cm high. Find its volume.
Answer: 1,350 cm3
- V = length × width × height = 15 × 10 × 9
- = 1,350 cm3
8.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 8 cm and height 7 cm. The prism is 8 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 224 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 8 × 7 = 28 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 28 × 8
- = 224 cm3
9.A rectangular prism is 10 cm long, 5 cm wide and 8 cm high. Find its volume.
Answer: 400 cm3
- V = length × width × height = 10 × 5 × 8
- = 400 cm3
10.A rectangular prism has a volume of 70 cm3. Its base is 7 cm by 2 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 5 cm
- Base area = 7 × 2 = 14 cm2
- Height = 70 ÷ 14 = 5 cm
Marking tips
- Give credit for correct method even when the final answer slips — the working shows where the thinking went right.
- For open-ended tasks, use the success criteria as a checklist rather than looking for one "right" answer.
- Celebrate what went well first, then pick one thing to work on next.
