7th Grade Volume of Prisms and Cylinders Worksheet — Level 2 — Practice Set 2 — Answers
Show your work. Volume is measured in cubic units (cm³).
1.A rectangular prism is 10 cm long, 8 cm wide and 7 cm high. Find its volume.
Answer: 560 cm3
- V = length × width × height = 10 × 8 × 7
- = 560 cm3
2.A rectangular prism has a volume of 216 cm3. Its base is 6 cm by 4 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 9 cm
- Base area = 6 × 4 = 24 cm2
- Height = 216 ÷ 24 = 9 cm
3.A rectangular prism has a volume of 480 cm3. Its base is 12 cm by 8 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 5 cm
- Base area = 12 × 8 = 96 cm2
- Height = 480 ÷ 96 = 5 cm
4.A rectangular prism has a volume of 90 cm3. Its base is 3 cm by 6 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 5 cm
- Base area = 3 × 6 = 18 cm2
- Height = 90 ÷ 18 = 5 cm
5.A rectangular prism has a volume of 294 cm3. Its base is 6 cm by 7 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 7 cm
- Base area = 6 × 7 = 42 cm2
- Height = 294 ÷ 42 = 7 cm
6.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 4 cm and height 2 cm. The prism is 11 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 44 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 4 × 2 = 4 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 4 × 11
- = 44 cm3
7.A rectangular prism has a volume of 704 cm3. Its base is 11 cm by 8 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 8 cm
- Base area = 11 × 8 = 88 cm2
- Height = 704 ÷ 88 = 8 cm
8.A rectangular prism has a volume of 60 cm3. Its base is 3 cm by 4 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 5 cm
- Base area = 3 × 4 = 12 cm2
- Height = 60 ÷ 12 = 5 cm
9.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 24 cm and height 5 cm. The prism is 13 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 780 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 24 × 5 = 60 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 60 × 13
- = 780 cm3
10.A rectangular prism is 3 cm long, 5 cm wide and 7 cm high. Find its volume.
Answer: 105 cm3
- V = length × width × height = 3 × 5 × 7
- = 105 cm3
Marking tips
- Give credit for correct method even when the final answer slips — the working shows where the thinking went right.
- For open-ended tasks, use the success criteria as a checklist rather than looking for one "right" answer.
- Celebrate what went well first, then pick one thing to work on next.
