7th Grade Volume of Prisms and Cylinders Worksheet — Level 2 — Practice Set 4 — Answers
Show your work. Volume is measured in cubic units (cm³).
1.A rectangular prism has a volume of 441 cm3. Its base is 7 cm by 7 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 9 cm
- Base area = 7 × 7 = 49 cm2
- Height = 441 ÷ 49 = 9 cm
2.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 8 cm and height 2 cm. The prism is 12 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 96 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 8 × 2 = 8 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 8 × 12
- = 96 cm3
3.A rectangular prism has a volume of 320 cm3. Its base is 8 cm by 10 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 4 cm
- Base area = 8 × 10 = 80 cm2
- Height = 320 ÷ 80 = 4 cm
4.A rectangular prism has a volume of 63 cm3. Its base is 7 cm by 3 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 3 cm
- Base area = 7 × 3 = 21 cm2
- Height = 63 ÷ 21 = 3 cm
5.A rectangular prism is 12 cm long, 7 cm wide and 6 cm high. Find its volume.
Answer: 504 cm3
- V = length × width × height = 12 × 7 × 6
- = 504 cm3
6.A rectangular prism has a volume of 288 cm3. Its base is 4 cm by 8 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 9 cm
- Base area = 4 × 8 = 32 cm2
- Height = 288 ÷ 32 = 9 cm
7.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 12 cm and height 3 cm. The prism is 3 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 54 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 12 × 3 = 18 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 18 × 3
- = 54 cm3
8.A rectangular prism is 11 cm long, 10 cm wide and 10 cm high. Find its volume.
Answer: 1,100 cm3
- V = length × width × height = 11 × 10 × 10
- = 1,100 cm3
9.A rectangular prism is 14 cm long, 4 cm wide and 5 cm high. Find its volume.
Answer: 280 cm3
- V = length × width × height = 14 × 4 × 5
- = 280 cm3
10.A rectangular prism has a volume of 72 cm3. Its base is 4 cm by 6 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 3 cm
- Base area = 4 × 6 = 24 cm2
- Height = 72 ÷ 24 = 3 cm
Marking tips
- Give credit for correct method even when the final answer slips — the working shows where the thinking went right.
- For open-ended tasks, use the success criteria as a checklist rather than looking for one "right" answer.
- Celebrate what went well first, then pick one thing to work on next.
