1.A cylinder has a radius of 3 cm and a height of 10 cm. Find its volume, correct to 1 decimal place.
Answer: 282.7 cm3
- V = π × r2 × h = π × 32 × 10
- = π × 90
- ≈ 282.7 cm3
2.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 6 cm and height 7 cm. The prism is 10 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 210 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 6 × 7 = 21 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 21 × 10
- = 210 cm3
3.A rectangular prism has a volume of 216 cm3. Its base is 3 cm by 8 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 9 cm
- Base area = 3 × 8 = 24 cm2
- Height = 216 ÷ 24 = 9 cm
4.A cylinder has a radius of 8 cm and a height of 7 cm. Find its volume, correct to 1 decimal place.
Answer: 1407.4 cm3
- V = π × r2 × h = π × 82 × 7
- = π × 448
- ≈ 1407.4 cm3
5.A rectangular prism has a volume of 64 cm3. Its base is 8 cm by 4 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 2 cm
- Base area = 8 × 4 = 32 cm2
- Height = 64 ÷ 32 = 2 cm
6.A cylinder has a radius of 10 cm and a height of 18 cm. Find its volume, correct to 1 decimal place.
Answer: 5654.9 cm3
- V = π × r2 × h = π × 102 × 18
- = π × 1800
- ≈ 5654.9 cm3
7.A rectangular prism has a volume of 192 cm3. Its base is 6 cm by 4 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 8 cm
- Base area = 6 × 4 = 24 cm2
- Height = 192 ÷ 24 = 8 cm
8.A rectangular prism has a volume of 54 cm3. Its base is 3 cm by 6 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 3 cm
- Base area = 3 × 6 = 18 cm2
- Height = 54 ÷ 18 = 3 cm
9.A rectangular prism has a volume of 324 cm3. Its base is 6 cm by 6 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 9 cm
- Base area = 6 × 6 = 36 cm2
- Height = 324 ÷ 36 = 9 cm
10.A rectangular prism has a volume of 360 cm3. Its base is 5 cm by 9 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 8 cm
- Base area = 5 × 9 = 45 cm2
- Height = 360 ÷ 45 = 8 cm
Marking tips
- Give credit for correct method even when the final answer slips — the working shows where the thinking went right.
- For open-ended tasks, use the success criteria as a checklist rather than looking for one "right" answer.
- Celebrate what went well first, then pick one thing to work on next.
