9th Grade Slope and Linear Equations Worksheet — Level 1 — Answers
Show your work. Slope = rise ÷ run; the equation of a line can be written as y = (slope)x + (y-intercept).
1.Find the slope of the line through (−1, 5) and (4, −10).
Answer: −3
- slope = rise ÷ run = (−10 − 5) ÷ (4 − (−1))
- = −15 ÷ 5 = −3
2.Find the slope of the line through (−1, −3) and (0, 0).
Answer: 3
- slope = rise ÷ run = (0 − (−3)) ÷ (0 − (−1))
- = 3 ÷ 1 = 3
3.Find the slope of the line through (1, 5) and (5, −3).
Answer: −2
- slope = rise ÷ run = (−3 − 5) ÷ (5 − 1)
- = −8 ÷ 4 = −2
4.For the line y = −3x − 7, write the slope and the y-intercept.
Answer: slope −3; y-intercept −7
In y = (slope)x + (y-intercept), the number multiplying x is the slope and the constant is where the line crosses the y-axis.
5.Find the slope of the line through (−6, −5) and (−11, −10).
Answer: 1
- slope = rise ÷ run = (−10 − (−5)) ÷ (−11 − (−6))
- = −5 ÷ −5 = 1
6.Find the slope of the line through (4, −3) and (7, 0).
Answer: 1
- slope = rise ÷ run = (0 − (−3)) ÷ (7 − 4)
- = 3 ÷ 3 = 1
7.Find the slope of the line through (−4, 2) and (−1, 11).
Answer: 3
- slope = rise ÷ run = (11 − 2) ÷ (−1 − (−4))
- = 9 ÷ 3 = 3
8.For the line y = −3x − 4, write the slope and the y-intercept.
Answer: slope −3; y-intercept −4
In y = (slope)x + (y-intercept), the number multiplying x is the slope and the constant is where the line crosses the y-axis.
9.Find the slope of the line through (−3, −2) and (−8, 8).
Answer: −2
- slope = rise ÷ run = (8 − (−2)) ÷ (−8 − (−3))
- = 10 ÷ −5 = −2
10.Find the slope of the line through (−6, 0) and (−8, 6).
Answer: −3
- slope = rise ÷ run = (6 − 0) ÷ (−8 − (−6))
- = 6 ÷ −2 = −3
Marking tips
- Give credit for correct method even when the final answer slips — the working shows where the thinking went right.
- For open-ended tasks, use the success criteria as a checklist rather than looking for one "right" answer.
- Celebrate what went well first, then pick one thing to work on next.
