1.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 10 cm and height 6 cm. The prism is 6 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 180 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 10 × 6 = 30 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 30 × 6
- = 180 cm3
2.A cylinder has a radius of 3 cm and a height of 16 cm. Find its volume, correct to 1 decimal place.
Answer: 452.4 cm3
- V = π × r2 × h = π × 32 × 16
- = π × 144
- ≈ 452.4 cm3
3.A rectangular prism has a volume of 60 cm3. Its base is 4 cm by 3 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 5 cm
- Base area = 4 × 3 = 12 cm2
- Height = 60 ÷ 12 = 5 cm
4.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 8 cm and height 8 cm. The prism is 14 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 448 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 8 × 8 = 32 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 32 × 14
- = 448 cm3
5.A cylinder has a radius of 8 cm and a height of 13 cm. Find its volume, correct to 1 decimal place.
Answer: 2613.8 cm3
- V = π × r2 × h = π × 82 × 13
- = π × 832
- ≈ 2613.8 cm3
6.A cylinder has a radius of 3 cm and a height of 19 cm. Find its volume, correct to 1 decimal place.
Answer: 537.2 cm3
- V = π × r2 × h = π × 32 × 19
- = π × 171
- ≈ 537.2 cm3
7.A rectangular prism has a volume of 360 cm3. Its base is 12 cm by 10 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 3 cm
- Base area = 12 × 10 = 120 cm2
- Height = 360 ÷ 120 = 3 cm
8.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 8 cm and height 6 cm. The prism is 15 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 360 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 8 × 6 = 24 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 24 × 15
- = 360 cm3
9.A cylinder has a radius of 10 cm and a height of 8 cm. Find its volume, correct to 1 decimal place.
Answer: 2513.3 cm3
- V = π × r2 × h = π × 102 × 8
- = π × 800
- ≈ 2513.3 cm3
10.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 20 cm and height 6 cm. The prism is 3 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 180 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 20 × 6 = 60 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 60 × 3
- = 180 cm3
Marking tips
- Give credit for correct method even when the final answer slips — the working shows where the thinking went right.
- For open-ended tasks, use the success criteria as a checklist rather than looking for one "right" answer.
- Celebrate what went well first, then pick one thing to work on next.
