9th Grade Volume of Prisms and Cylinders Worksheet — Level 2 — Practice Set 3 — Answers
Show your work. Volume is measured in cubic units (cm³).
1.A rectangular prism is 10 cm long, 2 cm wide and 3 cm high. Find its volume.
Answer: 60 cm3
- V = length × width × height = 10 × 2 × 3
- = 60 cm3
2.A rectangular prism has a volume of 48 cm3. Its base is 4 cm by 2 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 6 cm
- Base area = 4 × 2 = 8 cm2
- Height = 48 ÷ 8 = 6 cm
3.A rectangular prism is 15 cm long, 7 cm wide and 10 cm high. Find its volume.
Answer: 1,050 cm3
- V = length × width × height = 15 × 7 × 10
- = 1,050 cm3
4.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 14 cm and height 4 cm. The prism is 10 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 280 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 14 × 4 = 28 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 28 × 10
- = 280 cm3
5.A rectangular prism is 12 cm long, 11 cm wide and 10 cm high. Find its volume.
Answer: 1,320 cm3
- V = length × width × height = 12 × 11 × 10
- = 1,320 cm3
6.A rectangular prism is 12 cm long, 8 cm wide and 8 cm high. Find its volume.
Answer: 768 cm3
- V = length × width × height = 12 × 8 × 8
- = 768 cm3
7.A rectangular prism has a volume of 90 cm3. Its base is 5 cm by 3 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 6 cm
- Base area = 5 × 3 = 15 cm2
- Height = 90 ÷ 15 = 6 cm
8.A rectangular prism has a volume of 99 cm3. Its base is 11 cm by 3 cm. Find its height.
Answer: 3 cm
- Base area = 11 × 3 = 33 cm2
- Height = 99 ÷ 33 = 3 cm
9.A rectangular prism is 4 cm long, 7 cm wide and 5 cm high. Find its volume.
Answer: 140 cm3
- V = length × width × height = 4 × 7 × 5
- = 140 cm3
10.A triangular prism has a triangular end with base 14 cm and height 2 cm. The prism is 14 cm long. Find its volume.
Answer: 196 cm3
- Area of the triangle = ½ × 14 × 2 = 14 cm2
- V = area of end × length = 14 × 14
- = 196 cm3
Marking tips
- Give credit for correct method even when the final answer slips — the working shows where the thinking went right.
- For open-ended tasks, use the success criteria as a checklist rather than looking for one "right" answer.
- Celebrate what went well first, then pick one thing to work on next.
