Free Year 10 Editing for Clarity and Concision Worksheet

Students learn to cut what does not earn its place: redundant pairs (each and every), padded phrases (due to the fact that), empty openers (there is, it is important to note), unnecessary passives and dangling modifiers. They identify the problem, rewrite individual sentences against model answers, replace wordy phrases with single words and finally edit a padded paragraph to roughly half its length without losing meaning. Concise writing is rewarded in every senior English task and in the workplace.
