Work through the four parts in order. Say each word out loud as you write it.

Part A — Your words

These pairs sound the same or very similar, so you must choose by meaning. principal = head of a school (your pal); principle = a rule. stationery = paper and pens (e for envelope); stationary = not moving. affect = to change something (a verb); effect = the result (a noun). In Australian English, practice is the noun (soccer practice) and practise is the verb (I practise piano). quiet = silent; quite = fairly. lose (one o) = to misplace or be beaten. Write each word three times.
