Free Year 9 Bias, Connotation and Point of View in Opinion Writing Worksheet

Students analyse an original newspaper-style opinion column arguing against supermarket self-checkouts. They identify the writer's contention and point of view, examine how words with strong connotations position the reader, spot bias such as generalisation, anecdote and omission, consider whose voices are missing, and rewrite part of the column in a balanced way before writing an analytical paragraph.
