Free Year 1 CVC Words: Read and Write Worksheet

Children blend three sounds to read short words like pig, bed and hot, then pull words apart to write them. They pick the word a grown-up sounds out, fill in the missing middle vowel from a spoken clue, build words from sounds and read two tiny sentences. CVC words (consonant, vowel, consonant) are the first words children can read and spell all by themselves, using every short vowel: a, e, i, o and u.
