Children listen for words that rhyme, like cat and hat or bee and tree. They pick the word that rhymes, spot the odd one out, think of their own rhyming words and finish silly rhyming sentences. Rhyming trains children to hear the sounds inside words, and children who can rhyme usually find it easier to learn word families such as -at, -in and -og.
